  • Computer Science.Why Computer Science?“. A short essay about the field and why I have spent my career in it.
  • Cybersecurity law and policy. With Richard Warner and Edward Carter, I coauthored Basic Cybersecurity Law for the Business Environment: Cases and Commentary (Aspen Publishing, 2025).
  • Privacy, security, and technology policy. My books include The Privacy Fix (Cambridge University Press, 2021), Why Don’t We Defend Better? (CRC Press, 2019), and Unauthorized Access (CRC Press, 2013), all coauthored with Richard Warner.
  • UIC’s Computer Science Building. One of the major projects during my tenure as department head was planning and construction of UIC’s new computer science building. Chicago Sun Times piece on CS’s beautiful new computer science building
  • Computing education, opportunity, and access in Chicago, both in classrooms and through experiential learning. I served as academic lead and principal investigator for Break Through Tech Chicago from 2020–2025 and continue to work on new related educational initiatives.
